Working Life Scenario in Evolution (WLSE)

WLSE is a project that adopts design culture to rethink people's working routines

Introduction

The research project focuses on exploring, redefining, and testing different working life scenarios that organizations could adopt considering the changes generated by this moment of transition caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The research aims to identify different approaches in nurturing organizational culture through design interventions, starting from employee experience design. This project stems from the need to propose design solutions (services and experiences) that can accompany the process of redefining the work modes and experiential conditions of Intesa Sanpaolo's Corporate Investment Banking division.

Main objective

The research question guiding this project is this: in this rapidly and constantly changing context, how do we transform a series of employee lifecycles into novel established activities, experiences, and work routines adopted by people within complex organizations? Practical aspects of inquiry concern:
  • What are and how should people's experiences be designed in this new hybrid (presence-remote) work?
  • How should the points of interaction between business and people be rethought in the new office space context?
  • How should people be accompanied in adopting new work patterns consistent with the ongoing change?

Main activities

  • Mapping: analysis of the different recurring professions and working journeys within IMI C&IB. Definition of an observation and listening model with specific survey areas.
  • Training support activities: in synergy with HR team, definition of a set of tools and materials that can accompany the understanding and implementation of Activity Based Working models.
  • The support HR team in defining activities to update and engage people about the new work model.
Design of an "experimental laboratory" model: conception of a laboratory that can test together with people their new way of working; definition of modes, dynamics, and standard tools to be able to make this space of experimentation of "experiences" replicable at different times and with diverse groups of people to test other experiential conditions iteratively.
