Introduction

India is a rapidly evolving country that is expanding its market becoming increasingly competitive from all points of view. Manufacturing is also involved in this transformation, thanks to the global perspective that the Country is acquiring. Because of the spreading of its production, together with the needs of students and industries, the culture of design and its education requires a renewal. Main objective

Design education in India needs to grow up and improve. The challenge is to create modern professionals who can look at design in a more strategic way, trying to put together aesthetic aspects, market, technology and society. DESINNO seeks to provide a method for the development of design education through the creation of three Design and Innovation Centers in Indian universities that will foster a systematic collaboration between academia and industry. These centres will facilitate the development of advanced university courses concerning product and service design, following the design thinking methodology.

Main activities

Before proceeding with the creation of the three Design and Innovation Centers, it is essential to understand how to update and improve education in the field of design. This would facilitate the creation of a structure to develop future educational methods. Therefore, we helped our partners by mapping European best practices in the educational field of design. Courses, laboratories and side activities have been analysed. What has been learned will then be updated with the culture of the Indian projects to create a modern and ad-hoc education for the young designers of the place, going to implement existing courses within the 3 Indian universities and setting up three new Design & Innovation centres.
