Training activities to promote design culture in an upholstered Chinese company

Introduction

Training activities are important to keep updated and bring innovation inside a company. Moreover, they are fundamental to building internal awareness of the company's vision and goals and increasing employee engagement. This is even more true when the company decides to bring a methodological innovation, introducing a design approach in its way of working and thinking. Change must take place gradually, making employees an active part of the transformation process through on-the-job training activities.

Main objective

The main objective of the project is to boost the design and creative culture and methodology inside the company through training activities for a selection of employees from different departments. The goal is that, at the end of the training project, the employees in turn become ambassadors of the method acquired with their colleagues, thus also promoting the dissemination of a design culture in the company.

Main activities

Each training activity is designed in the manner of workshops that alternate lectures and practical activities in which the concepts and tools learned are immediately put into practice on real work tasks. Depending on the subject, people involved in the workshop can be from the same or from different departments, therefore enabling cross-fertilization. Some activities required even the involvement of Italian young designers that work side by side with internal Chinese designers. The main topics are: how to define the right design language, how to conduct user research, how to generate the right design brief, how to ideate innovative products through the scenario building methodology.
