The contribution of Strategic Design in Open Innovation processes

DESCRIPTION

The Open Innovation paradigm highlights how companies can innovate in addition through the exchange of ideas and technologies with external players, not only focusing on internal company competencies and processes. Organisations collaborate with external partners – other businesses, research centres and universities – to accelerate and increase innovation, due to the sharing of knowledge, reduction of R&D costs and the shortened time to market. However, to successfully employ the Open Innovation approach, companies need to define a specific process, finding the appropriate ways, tools and strategies. Strategic designers can support these companies, both by guiding them in the definition of the Open Innovation process itself, and by enabling the collaborative activities, acting as knowledge translators and facilitating the co-creation of knowledge and solutions.
